Benin Ornamental Mask of a Leopard Head

Description: A metalwork made by Benin people who has great craftsmanship on mask making. The neatness and the skill to make the brass and bronze was remarkable to its period. This artifact has two level: the forehead and nose has formed a higher level than other part which required a highly experienced craftsman on curving.
The purpose of this artifact was assumed as a hip ornament for the ahistorical members related to Oba or Oba himself to show their high status in the society. Because the leopard was the animal associated with the Oba.
